How to choose the best breast reconstruction techniques
For choosing a breast reconstruction technique, you should know about the different breast reconstruction surgery options offered, and you should know whether and when you will be able to decide. Whether to do autologous reconstruction and implant-based reconstruction or a combination of both.
As a rule of thumb, autologous reconstruction is generally the best option. However, implant-based reconstruction has its advantages. Implant-based procedures take less time than the other options. There are a few other options that patients may consider while undergoing breast reconstruction. Keeping in mind the following factors:
- Your body type
- Tissues in tummy
Breast reconstruction is cheaper, and since it is not a cosmetic procedure, it is usually covered by insurance. However, other things like the patient’s general health have to be taken into consideration. Breast reconstruction surgery recovery takes time; hence we should also consider the disease after which reconstruction is required. Treatment usually takes priority, so we have to keep that in mind.
Smoking and obesity have adverse effects on both types of procedures, so it is important to keep these things in mind, lose weight, and stop smoking before you decide to undergo this process.
